Current COVID-19 Update: Thankfully, we are currently aware of zero faculty or students with known positive diagnoses and zero in quarantine due to exposure to known cases or untested symptoms. Keep praying, Crusaders! We are following distancing, masking, and disinfecting protocols carefully in order to protect our continuity of education in the event of a positive diagnosis.

3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020

Fourth quarter brought a unique set of circumstances to our Community family because of COVID-19. Our move to remote learning was a good temporary solution, but we all came away with a deeper understanding of the importance of face-to-face classroom instruction. Our administration has been working with our re-opening task force to develop a plan to move back into traditional classroom instruction. This plan puts high importance on parental choice and the safety and well-being of our entire Community family.

In cooperation with counsel from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the governor’s office, local health authorities, and the legal department of our accrediting agency, CCS will offer traditional classroom instruction to our families this fall. Campus life will be restructured and reorganized to follow best practices for safety and excellence in education. Students will benefit from proven educational strategies based on a Christian traditional worldview while following safety protocols such as physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and cleanliness. Parents who are unable to confidently move their children into a traditional classroom setting will have the option to continue remote learning similar to what our school family used during the end of the last academic year.

In this document and over the next weeks, you will get important details regarding our re-opening plan. Read these materials carefully. Some information will be different than what is in our handbook and will supersede our standard operating procedure. We will inform you of necessary modifications to our plan as counsel from our supporting agencies deems it to be necessary.

On a personal level, consider taking a break from the twenty-four-hour news cycle. Health authorities have made clear the negative effects of over consumption of broadcast news.

Thank you for doing your part to ensure a safe learning environment on campus at Community.

8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2020

In order to give our personnel more time to get campus facilities prepared for our Fall Reopening Plan, the CCS administration will delay the school start date to Monday, August 17. This delay is for students in grades K4 through 12 including VPK. Over the next 48 hours, Crusaders should watch their email and this page for important updates and options for CCS families. During this time, faculty and staff should watch their email for in-service details. We know you have questions! Be praying for us as we work hard to solidify answers over the next couple days. We are praying for you, Crusaders!

2:15 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2020

Dear CCS Family,

The administration is closely monitoring the developments in the state of Florida and our nation as we make plans to resume school in August. As you well know, the situation is dynamic with authorities releasing updated information almost daily. Rest assured that we are watching, evaluating, and praying as we honor our commitment to God and our school families to safely educate your children.

CCS is taking extraordinary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our teachers, students, and their families:

  1. New hand sanitizer stations around campus
  2. Updated cleaning protocols for classrooms, hallways, lockers, and lunchrooms
    1. Microban disinfectant and sanitizer used daily
    2. Disinfectant wipes used throughout the day for surfaces
    3. Sanitizing wipes for all electronics
    4. New commercial vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters
  3. Fourteen commercial grade ozone air purifiers across campus
  4. Hospital grade no-touch digital thermometers in each classroom
  5. Clear Plexiglas individual student barriers for all student desks
  6. Arranging of classrooms and schedules to maximize physical distancing and minimize mingling outside of grade level.
  7. Plexiglas barriers for shared office spaces
  8. Space dividers for computer lab workstations
  9. Individual student iPads
Students in grades 7 through 12 who need iPads for classes will be assigned devices, check them out at the beginning of the school day, and return them at the end of each day. This procedure will reduce the risk of germ transmission that can occur when handheld devices are shared. We plan for students to use the same iPad for the duration of the school year.
  10. Face masks for those who wish to use them
  11. Continued fervent prayer

As we make plans to return at the end of summer break, would you commit to praying with us for God to show mercy and ease the effects of this pandemic? Because our plans are contingent on the availability of certain commerical products, pray that all of the items we need for school will be available and in stock during this time of economic instability. Pray that we would all make decisions based on fact rather than emotion, communicate disagreement in a compassionate way, and work together to glorify God even through this trial. We love you, Crusaders. We are praying daily for you; please pray for us. We are excited to see you again soon.

Prayerfully,
Dan Moore
Assistant Administrator

Dear CCS Family,

Community Christian School takes seriously the responsibility that families have entrusted to us to educate your children. Of utmost concern to us is the safety and health of each of our students, staff, faculty, and families. After much thought and prayer regarding our seniors, student life and the ministry to the students that we desire to have, the CCS administration has made the difficult decision to continue remote learning for the remainder of the academic year.
We are hard at work planning ways to keep our annual end-of-year events for our CCS family. We are having discussions right now about graduations, award ceremonies, and final examinations. We will share these plans with you as soon as possible.
We continue to pray daily for our entire Crusader family!

The CCS Administrative Team

8:00 p.m., April 18, 2020

CCS Families,

We are aware of the breaking news that Governor DeSantis has made the decision to keep public schools in the state closed for the remainder of the academic year. The CCS administration will provide more guidance for our school in the next several days. Please check this page, Facebook, and your email for updates.

VPK Families,

Pursuant to the governor’s order, effective immediately, we have closed VPK through May 1, 2020. Students who are a part of our wraparound childcare program may still attend from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Your child’s teachers have put together learning packets for each student. Please stop by the preschool building on Monday, April 6, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 12 noon. If you are unable to pick up your learning packet during that time frame, please call or email to schedule a pickup time.

Preschool Director

Pursuant to guidance from the Florida Department of Education, Community Christian School will continue to operate under the current distance learning model through Friday, May 1. We continue to pray for those affected by the current pandemic. In recognition of our nursery, preschool, and childcare's role as an essential component of the community infrastructure, CCS will continue to operate those departments with the previously posted additional guidelines and policies. Please continue to reach out to your classroom teachers with specific questions regarding distance learning. We are praying for you, Crusaders!

9:25 p.m., April 01, 2020

Dear Community Family,

Community Christian School’s remote learning model is in compliance with Governor DeSantis’s stay-at-home order. Florida Executive Order 20-91 allows for educational staff to report to work to operate as needed to support implementation of distance learning. It also gives clear guidance for all businesses and organizations to provide curbside service outside of the business or organization (FL EO 20-91, 2.e). Our drive-through packet exchange is in compliance with the executive order.

As essential services, our nursery, preschool, and daycare will continue to provide important childcare for our Crusader family. We are not currently permitted to enroll new children in our program.

We are currently evaluating two specific areas of our educational plan: music lessons, and the resource center. We are still trying to find a course of action that works for our families while complying with FL EO 20-91. We hope to have a decision on these matters within the next twenty-four hours.

Let’s purpose together to uphold one another in prayer, to plan to serve one another to the best of our abilities, to be patient with each other, and to pray some more!

We love you, Crusaders!
The CCS Administrative Team

4:45 p.m., March 27, 2020

We have been praying for you, Crusaders! The current situation certainly brings challenges, but it also brings unexpected benefits and blessings. We are praying that God graciously shows each of us ways to grow closer to Him, closer to our families, and closer to each other during this time of physical distancing.

Monday is the first day of online classes for our student body in grades K5 through 12. Here are a few things for your checklist:

  1. If you haven't picked up your packet and books yet, make sure to do so as soon as possible on Monday.
  2. Make sure you have created your Skype account so that you can begin Skyping with your teachers on Tuesday, 03/31. You can reach each teacher by Skype through his or her school email address. Get started at skype.com.
  3. Make sure to start classes at communitychristianfl.org each day. There is no need to search for your teachers on the internet, just click on the appropriate link at the bottom of the school website.
  4. Have a specific place in your home where you will do schoolwork.
  5. Have a schedule for doing your schoolwork each day. Remember to schedule breaks!

If we can help you at all, please reach out via Skype or email. We are here for you.

Remember, Crusaders! Prayer. Planning. Patience. Prayer.

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." I Peter 5:7

12:00 noon., March 23, 2020

Although our school is on Spring Break this week and will be learning remotely through April 15, our nursery and preschool is open. Regarding VPK, we are open for wraparound students this week; service for VPK non-wraparound will resume on Monday, 03/30. Please be advised that during the CoViD-19 limitations, we will have a temporary change in policy. We will not permit anyone in the preschool building who is not directly taking care of the children. This policy means no parents or other staff members will be permitted inside. Drop-off and pickup will be as follows:

  1. You will sign your children in, and a staff member will escort them into the bathroom to wash their hands before taking them into their appropriate classrooms.
  2. We are doing our best to have no more than ten people in a room.
  3. We will be doing extended cleaning each night after the children have left that room.
  4. Our normal sick policy has been updated to include the following policy: a child with a cough or running nose will be sent home when observed by the teacher. Our regular sick policy is still in effect as well.

Please be patient as we navigate this change and contact us with any questions. I am thankful for each one of you and am praying for all our nursery and preschool families.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Kimi Malloy
Preschool Director

Dear CCS Families,

These are exciting and challenging days. The verse I am claiming for my family, our teachers, and our students is II Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Let us all commit before God to make decisions and take action not based on fear but rather based on God’s power, His love, and the sound minds that He has given each of us. Know that we love each of you and are praying for you regularly.

As you know, CCS is transitioning to a temporary distance education model for all students in grades K5 through 12. Teachers are hard at work creating and curating video lessons for our students and creating weekly work packets. Links to video lessons will be at the bottom of our school website under Remote Learning. Here is a list of important details and specifics for you.

  1. From March 16 through March 19, deep cleaning has been taking place in our school to prepare for teachers to come in and create and curate online learning content.
  2. On March 20 and 30, digital devices can be checked out by Title 1 students that have no digital devices. Help us assist our families with more profound need by not attempting to check out a device if your child has access to a tool such as a tablet or laptop.
  3. WiFi will be needed at home. Contact Charter/Spectrum at 1-844-488-8395 if you don't have WiFi for your student already. WiFi service is offered with no installation or service fees for at least sixty days for all students.
  4. Students will need to create a Skype account for video conferencing with teachers at https://www.skype.com/en/. Most teachers will be at school and available for Skype conferencing help each day between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Outside of video conference hours, teachers will be available by email. Select teachers may have different video classroom hours. They will communicate modified schedules to their classes. Regular Skype conferencing will not begin until Tuesday, March 31, although many teachers will be available on Monday, March 30.
  5. Families may pick up classroom books, supplies, and their first weekly work packet on Friday, March 20, or Monday, March 30, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Please park in the elementary/preschool parking lot. The large church/high school parking lot will be closed for resurfacing. Do not linger on campus during your materials pickup time. For the health and safety of everyone and to expedite a long process, we ask that you quickly secure your child’s materials and leave campus. Faculty and staff will politely but firmly ask you to move quickly and leave quickly. Parents and students should not enter classrooms for any reason. Knock on exterior doors or ring doorbells at certain locations. A teacher will come to you to escort you through hallways. Please be patient and do not congregate or loiter on campus. Questions for teachers should be posed via Skype or email.
  6. The Hales are currently out of town. For this reason, we are asking families with students in grades 1, 7, and 11 to wait to pick up materials on Monday, March 30.
  7. Beginning April 3, families may pick up and drop off weekly work packets each Monday or Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pick up and drop off service will be drive-through in front of the school office/high school building.
  8. Students can access their remote video lessons by visiting our school website. At the bottom of every page is a section for Remote Learning. Click on the appropriate link there and follow the instructions in your weekly work packets.
  9. Students and parents may be asked to sign honesty statements that they have watched videos and completed materials according to given instructions.
  10. All materials in weekly work packets must be completed and returned in order to be graded. Most tests and quizzes will be open book. If a test or quiz is not open book, the classroom teacher will communicate expectations.
  11. Students receiving scholarship funds through Gardiner, McKay, or Hope, or have an IEP or 504 plan will still be able to receive resource help with Mrs. Sheffield or Mrs. Meyer in a one-on-one or small group setting in our resource center. Students must schedule these help sessions with Mrs. Sheffield at ksheffield@commbapt.com or 941-264-2745. Walk-in help is not available. We are not currently accepting any new students into the resource program.

Remember to pray for our teachers and each other. Plan to support your students as much as you are able as they complete their daily lessons. Have patience as we make adjustments to procedures. Then pray some more! I am excited to see how God is going to further unite our CCS family as He draws us closer to Him during this time of challenge. Remember that we are praying for you. We are here to support you. You’re not alone in this.

Assistant Administrator

12:45 p.m., March 18, 2020

CCS will be moving to an online learning model for grades K5 through 12 effective Monday, March 30. Online videos and conferencing will be made available to every student. Unless guidance from the Department of Education changes, this online learning model will be in place until April 15, when we plan to return to normal classroom operation.

It is imperative that all families have internet access in their homes. If you know of a family that does not have internet access please reach out and encourage them to contact Charter Communications at 1-844-488-8395 to set up free installation and internet.

Teachers are hard at work today and tomorrow here at school. We will have full detailed information about specifics regarding the transition by the end of the day tomorrow. We have many exciting things planned for this new adventure!

We know you have questions. We are working on answers. Please continue to be patient. Our teachers are working overtime to prepare and change the framework of our classrooms. We will be here for you!

Tomorrow’s update will be full of details and specifics. Please pray for us as we prepare!

Remember, CCS: Prayer. Planning. Patience. Prayer.

9:25 p.m., March 17, 2020

We are aware of the late news that the Department of Education has recommended suspension of  all K-12 classrooms and called for a move to online and virtual learning for all public and private schools until April 15, 2020. We are ready for this, CCS! We are preparing a plan and a statement for tomorrow morning. Please stay patient and stay tuned. We will update here and on Facebook as soon as we have details for you.

Remember, family: prayer, planning, patience, and prayer!

7:15 p.m., March 17, 2020

Because our nursery and preschool programs are a vital part of the community infrastructure, we are eager to reopen them. We are spending this week deep cleaning our entire campus. Currently our plan is to open our preschool and nursery program on Monday, March 23, to serve currently enrolled families in nursery, K-2, K-3, and VPK wraparound only; non-wraparound VPK service will resume on Monday, March 30. We will not be accepting new enrollments until our entire school is running under normal operating procedures. In addition to our normal guidelines, our Early Childhood Center will adopt the following additional protocols until such time as our entire school is running under normal operating procedures.

  1. If your child has a fever, visible congestion, a runny nose, or a persistent cough, please keep him home. He will not be allowed to stay on campus. We may screen students and send them home at any time during the day.
  2. Preschool staff will deep clean and sanitize all classroom surfaces, toys, and cribs each day after close of business.
  3. We have instituted a frequent hand-washing schedule for all employees and children.
  4. Preschool will for the foreseeable future maintain a maximum indoor limit of ten children in any classroom at any time.
  5. Please note that we are not opening our daycare to students in grades K5 through 6 at this time.

This is our plan currently. We all know that these are dynamic days; stay updated by watching this page closely.

We do not have any updates today regarding a time frame for re-opening our physical classrooms for grades K5-12. Our teachers are hard at work planning for school on March 30 whether it be in the classroom or via remote learning. Thank you for your patience as we strive to do what is best for our school families and our community at large. We are praying for you all.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9

11:45 p.m., March 16, 2020

Prayer. Planning. Patience. Prayer.
This is what we are doing as teachers, and it’s what we hope you are doing as families.

CCS teachers are hard at work this week putting together remote learning plans should our closure extend past March 30. We are praying to be able to welcome our students back to their classrooms on March 30 but planning for contingencies in order to provide excellent teaching and communication.
Be sure to have internet data available at your homes. If extended closures become necessary, you will get customized video lessons and worksheets from your teacher here at CCS. We are working hard to provide continuity of education for our precious students. If you know of a family without internet access, please communicate with them that free internet and installation are available during this time. Charter is reaching out to help families with K-12 students get and stay connected to their digital classrooms. Help us get all of our families online so that no student is left without the tools we are putting together.
We know you have questions. We are working to keep you updated daily on our progress and any decisions regarding closure that the administration has made.

Be praying! I Timothy 1:7
Be planning! Click here to get and stay connected. Help others in our CCS family get and stay connected.

10:30 p.m., March 13, 2020

Out of an abundance of caution and as advised by local and state government officials, CCS will suspend all school-related activities effective immediately; this includes sports activities, daycare, preschool, and all child care. We plan for all school activities to resume on Monday, March 30. Our hearts are heavy for the hardship that this action will cause for many of our families that depend on our childcare, but after much deliberation, we believe this is the best course of action. Please watch this page for further updates.

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. I Peter 5:7

6:00 p.m., March 13, 2020

In light of the announcement that all Florida Public Schools will be closing until March 30, the CCS administration is discussing our course of action. We expect to have news very soon. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 2:17. Please watch this page for further updates.

3:45 p.m., March 13, 2020

As we continue to monitor the threat, we would like to emphasize to our school family the following travel warning. This warning is adapted from a similar warning given to all schools in Manatee County:

  • If you have traveled or will be traveling to Europe, China, Iran, South Korea, Japan or traveling on a cruise ship, we ask you to monitor your health and limit interactions with others (this means not attending school) for fourteen days after returning to the United States. If you become symptomatic, immediately self-isolate and contact the Manatee Health Department at 941-242-6649.

9:00 a.m., March 13, 2020

We are monitoring the news regarding the CoViD-19 threat. Of primary concern to us is the health and safety of our students and families. With this in mind, we are taking the following steps to help protect our constituents:

  1. pray for God's direction and wisdom,
  2. seek counsel from reputable sources such as the CDC and WHO,
  3. take necessary precautions as directed by these experts: washing hands, sanitizing hands and surfaces, and covering mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing,
  4.  and trust God.

3: 00 p.m., March 3, 2020

We have received a letter from the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department of Health regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Currently we are at a relatively low risk. Planning and preparing are always important: health and safety are paramount for all of us. In response to such concerns, we encourage families to access up-to-date information from the Florida Department of Health website, floridahealth.gov, or the Centers for Disease Control website, cdc.gov.

Recommendations:

  • If you are sick, stay home.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds.
  • Carry and use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Call ahead before visiting your doctor.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Monitor your symptoms.

We have given our staff instructions regarding extra cleaning. We will be diligent in sending children home and ensuring that students are twenty-four-hour fever free before returning. The best practice to avoid spreading sickness is to stay home until a child is twenty-four-hour fever free. We appreciate your help to keep our school a safe place for learning.
